Connect Squarespace

BABAV can answer “where’s my order?” and “is this in stock?” from your Squarespace store, and show your chat bubble on your Squarespace site. BABAV only reads your store. It never changes an order, a product or your stock.

Before you start

  1. Orders and stock: Core, Plus or Advanced.
    • On an older plan this is Commerce Advanced. Squarespace does not give order or stock access on other plans.
  2. Chat bubble: Core or higher.
    • It uses Squarespace’s Code Injection. On an older plan this is Business or higher.
  3. On a smaller plan?
    • Skip orders and stock. You can still add the chat bubble once you have Code Injection.

Connect it

Orders and stock, step by step

  1. In BABAV, open Settings. Under Your store, tap Connect Squarespace.
  2. In Squarespace, open Settings → Developer Tools → Developer API Keys. On older sites it is Settings → Advanced → Developer API Keys.
  3. Tap Generate Key. Name it BABAV.
  4. Under Permissions, tick Orders and Inventory. Tick Products too if you see it. Choose Read only for each.
  5. Tap Next. Copy the key. Squarespace shows it only once.
  6. Back in BABAV, paste the key and tap Connect.

How it works for your buyers: if someone messages from the email or phone number on an order, BABAV can answer there. Anyone else is asked for the email or phone they used, and the order details are sent to that email or phone — never shown in the chat.

Chat bubble, step by step

  1. In the same BABAV window, tap Chat bubble.
  2. Type your site address, like yourshop.com or yourshop.squarespace.com. Tap Get my code, then Copy code.
  3. In Squarespace, open Settings → Developer Tools → Code Injection. On older sites it is Settings → Advanced → Code Injection.
  4. Paste the code into the Footer box. Tap Save.
  5. Open your site in a new tab. The chat bubble shows in the corner.

Your site opens at more than one address (for example with and without www)? Run step 2 once for each address.

Fix a problem

  1. Check your plan is Core, Plus or Advanced (older: Commerce Advanced).
  2. Make a new key with Orders and Inventory ticked. Paste the new one.
  3. You can still add the chat bubble.

  1. Squarespace shows a key only once. Make a new key and copy the whole thing.

  1. Your key is missing the Orders permission. Make a new key with it ticked and connect again.

  1. Check you saved the code in Code Injection → Footer.
  2. Check the address you typed in BABAV is the one your site opens at.
  3. Code Injection is missing? Your plan does not include it.
