Before you start

  1. The Telegram app on your phone or computer.
  2. Nothing else. You create the bot in the steps below.

Connect it

  1. In Telegram, search for @BotFather (it has a blue check mark). Open it and tap Start.
  2. Send /newbot.
  3. Type a name for your bot, like your brand name.
  4. Type a username. It must end in “bot”, like yourbrand_bot.
  5. BotFather replies with a token (a long password for your bot). It looks like 123456789:ABCdef…. Copy it. Keep it private.
  6. Already have a bot? Send /mybots to BotFather, pick your bot, then API Token.
  7. In BABAV, open Connections. Find the Telegram card. Tap Connect →.
  8. Paste the token and tap Connect. You see “Telegram connected”.

Let the bot answer in group chats

By default Telegram hides most group messages from bots.

On your phone

  1. In @BotFather, send /setprivacy.
  2. Pick your bot. Choose Disable.
  3. Add your bot to the group, then send a message there.

On a computer

  • Same steps in Telegram on your computer.

Did it work?

  • The Telegram card shows your bot’s @username.
  • Test it: from your own Telegram, send your bot a message. It replies.

Fix a problem

  1. Part of the token was missed when copying. Copy the whole thing from BotFather again. It has a number, a colon, then a long run of letters.
  2. Paste it with nothing before or after it.

  1. Telegram says the token is wrong or was replaced.
  2. In @BotFather, send /mybots, pick your bot, tap API Token, and copy the current one.
  3. Paste it into BABAV again.

  1. Turn off privacy mode for the bot (see “Settings to check” above). Then send a new message in the group.
