Connect Mastodon

BABAV posts for you on Mastodon. If you turn it on, it can also answer mentions and direct messages.

Before you start

  1. The name of your Mastodon server.
    • It is the part after the second @ in your handle. For @you@mastodon.social it is mastodon.social.
  2. Be logged in to that Mastodon account in your browser.
  3. Use a normal web browser, like Safari or Chrome.
    • Connecting does not work inside the Instagram, Facebook, TikTok or Gmail apps’ built-in browser.

Connect it

  1. In BABAV, open Connections. Find the Mastodon card. Tap Connect →.
  2. Type your handle, like @you@mastodon.social — or paste your profile link, or only the server name. BABAV shows the server it found. Tap Continue →.
  3. Your server opens and shows what BABAV wants to do. Check the account name.
  4. Tap Authorize.
  5. You come back to BABAV and see “Connected Mastodon!”.

Say that AI helps

Your server may require it, and it keeps people’s trust. Rules differ from server to server.

On a computer

  • On your server’s website, open Edit profile. Add a short line to your bio, like “Some replies are written with help from AI.” Save.

See or remove BABAV later

Useful if you want to start over.

On a computer

  • On your server’s website: Preferences → Account → Authorized apps. Find BABAV and choose Revoke. (Menu names can vary by server.)

Did it work?

  • The Mastodon card shows your handle, like @you@mastodon.social.

Fix a problem

  1. Type your handle, like @you@mastodon.social, or only the server name, like mastodon.social. A profile link works too.
  2. Not sure of the name? It is in your handle, after the second @.

  1. Check the spelling of the server name.
  2. Your server may be down, or it may not allow new apps. Wait a few minutes and try again.
  3. Still stuck? Email support@babav.co with the server name.

  1. Your server did not finish handing over access. Tap Connect → again.

  1. Mastodon is still being tested. Nothing on your side will change it.
  2. Email support@babav.co if you want to try it early.

  1. Most of the time this means Cancel or Don’t allow was tapped on the Mastodon screen, or a box was left unticked.
  2. Tap Connect → again. Tick every box, then tap the button that allows access.
  3. Seeing it again after that? Email support@babav.co with a screenshot.

  1. BABAV’s access to Mastodon ran out or was removed.
  2. Tap Reconnect → on the card and sign in again. You do not need to disconnect first.

  1. You opened BABAV inside another app, like Instagram, Facebook or Gmail. Google and Meta block connecting there.
  2. Tap the ••• menu and choose Open in browser. Or copy app.babav.co/dashboard#connections into Safari or Chrome.
  3. Log in and tap Connect → again.
